Salvation for my hands – GORE-TEX Windstopper Thermo Split

Every winter I’ve been struggling in the cold and pushing through the pain, because my hands simply refused to stay warm. I had to resort to wearing snowboarding outer shells on the top of my “winter” gloves, entirely losing the dexterity. Not anymore, I guess…

All thanks to my beloved wife! She might not be an expert in the winter sport cycling, but she sure is persistent and stubborn. She’s done an incredible research, even remembering to ignore mostly worthless England-based recommendations – they have a different definition of Winter in there…

As I’ve been offered a choice of multiple gloves, including decent looking Giro’s and completely inadequate spring/autumn Shimano’s, her main choice, and ultimately mine has been Windstopper Thermo Split Gloves from GORE-TEX.

Follow the link and you will find lobster-style gloves with only 3 fingers – a simple idea of keeping your fingers warm by holding them together. I’ve been always uncertain and suspicious of all the textile technical marketing, but apparently I’ve been proven wrong. They must have done SOMETHING right with the materials used, because…

I know it’s a bit early to make it a full-time review, but after the first ride in -8°C they’ve indeed kept my hands warm! Warm enough so I’ve been able to spend over two hours on a bicycle in decent comfort.

One might think this can be done with any other gloves, but those I’ve got allow to retain a certain level of dexterity, so I can keep them on and still (carefully) use my iPhone to record my videos. Might be a non-factor for many, but I really like it and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

So, for the first time in years, I’ve been out and about, doing my cycling around the chimney in freezing cold weather and I’ve returned home without excruciating pain in my hands.

There you go! They’ve made me so happy I had to write about them and share my joy!😍
